What does my yard have to do with anything?

8/15/2022 (Permalink)

If you have soil erosion around your home, stop and assess why this is occurring.  Has your neighbor changed the direction of their downspouts and the water is running into your yard?  Did you or your neighbor update landscaping or add or delete hardscaping that was in the yard?  What about structural changes to your home?  Did you put on an addition, repave your driveway, add a patio or porch? All or any of these enhancements, if not done properly, with the topography and drainage of the land in mind, could result in erosion.  On the surface, the erosion may not seem like that big of a deal, but there lies the issue……when you see erosion, it is not just on the surface.  It is deep down and potentially running into your foundation at a rate that cannot be deflected or absorbed by the adjacent soil.  So, before you pay for expensive foundation work that you might not need, check your lawn and the soil around your house for signs of erosion.  If found, figure out the source of the erosion and rectify the problem to see if that solves your issue.

However, if before your sleuthing figures this issue out, you have water seeping into your home, give SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly a call on (703) 830-5800.  We’ll come and dry you out before the damage is too great and mold sets in.

Don't be bamboozled.....Call SERVPRO Instead

Everyone has heard the adage, “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” Keep this in mind during the winter storm season. Traveling storm chasers may be knocking on your door before you’ve even called your insurance company! Don’t be taken in with the line, “we’re working up the street for one of your neighbors”, or, “we just finished work for the people living a block down the road.” These tactics are used so you think others have vetted these people, have used them, so they must be fine.  And some traveling storm chasers may be fine workers.  But… you must always go with a reputable company that is licensed, bonded, insured, who employees are trained and certified technicians, and are going to be there for you next week, next month, and next year.  That company is SERVPRO.

With SERVPRO, there are no gimmicks, no smoke and mirrors, no leaving town when the work is still incomplete.  Damage to your home is stressful enough; let us take some of that stress away.  Call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.  We are available 24/7, 365 days a year.

Work From Home Affected Your Commercial Occupancy Rate?

3/6/2022 (Permalink)

There is no denying that the past two years have taken a toll on just about every person and industry.  For most people, the ability to work from home literally saved their income....allowing them to continue to support their families from the dining room table or home office.  Now that the world is slowly opening up again, and people are "going back to work", it appears that the trend of working remotely isn't going away.  How many workers will continue to work from home?  What does this mean for commercial real estate?  If corporations are renewing leases, perhaps they only need a fraction of the square footage of years past.  So, if you are a commercial real estate owner or property manager, what are you doing to ensure your buildings are as fully leased as possible?

Your ability to influence whether a corporation allows teleworking or not is extremely limited.  However, what you can influence is whether your building is choosen for those companies looking to still have a corporate footprint.  Is your building clean, safe, and in good condition?  Does it weather a storm well, does it smell fresh and clean? If not, why not?  Don't loose current or potential tenants because your building leaks when there is a bad storm or smells musty and stale during hot and humid months.  Call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800 for an assessment today.  We can help you get back in shape so that you're in the running for those sought after tenants.

Don't be left with an empty building, call us today for assistance.

Why Such a Storm?

3/6/2022 (Permalink)

Have you ever wondered why thunderstorms occur?  Well, in a nutshell, thunderstorms are much like the saying, "what goes up, must come down".  Moist, warm air is the catalyst for a thunderstorm.  A funnel of warm air which rises up through the atmosphere creates an updraft.  Updrafts continue to travel higher and higher into the atmosphere until the temperature of the updraft air is no longer warmer than the atmospheric air it has entered.  At this point, the updraft air flattens out like a pancake across the sky, creating immense rain clouds. Once the clouds get too heavy with precipitation, "rain" begins to fall.  Rain typically drags down cooler air, creating downdrafts.  The majority of downdrafts are fairly weak, but on occation, they can be menacingly strong.....causing significant damage though the intensity of the rain and the speed of the downdraft winds.  Fascinating as storms are, they can truly be devastating.

Should you find yourself at the wrong end of a storm, and damage has occurred, call SERVPRO.  We are remediation specialists and are there to help.  Give SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly a call on (703) 830-5800 should  you experience the wrath of a storm.

That's a Lot of Water!

3/6/2022 (Permalink)

Did you know that approximately 71% of the earths surface is covered by water?  Of that 71%, slightly over 96% is attributable to the worlds oceans, and the remaining 5% is attributable to lakes, rivers, dams and ponds. Thats a lot of water!  So, between ocean surges, rain storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, etc., the chance that you may someday experience "water damage" in your home is fairly great.  And this doesn't even take into account the possibility of broken pipes, overflowing bathtubs, dishwashers, washing machines and toilets! It's mind boggling how much water we are surrounded by!

If you find that "you're under water", for whatever reason, give SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly a call on (703) 830-5800.  We are trained water remediation specialists with the experience, equipment, and talent you need to get you dry again.

Where is the Sun!

3/3/2022 (Permalink)

Sunshine and blue skies are sometimes what we need to brighten our mood and to dry out a wet basement too!  We're slowly rolling into spring and with it come the snow melts and spring storms. Just when you think you're done with the slushy, wet, and cold snow, the spring downpours begin.

Take a bit of time in the spring to check your home after a harsh winter.  Are your downspouts working and still connected to the house?  Has your foundation held up through the winter months and your home is crack-free and more importantly, leak-free.  What condition is your roof?  Do you have a walk up basement entry and is the drain free of debris? These and many other check list items should be reviewed each spring to ensure your home stays as "water proof" as possible.

Should you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of water infiltration, give SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly a call on (703) 830-5800.  We're water remediaton experts and we're here to help.  So don't hesitate to call!

What is that Unfortumate Smell?

3/3/2022 (Permalink)

Unfortunately, where there is fire, there is smoke! We have had many clients that have experienced small scale kitchen fires and have called us months after the fact complaining about the "smokey odor" remaining in their home.  They will often say that they fire was not bad, a contractor replaced the cabinets and appliances, and they thought all was well....only to have this nagging odor.  Thinking the smell would dissipate over time, and the fact that it had not, only added to their frustrations.

Sometimes Lint Equals Fire

2/15/2022 (Permalink)

Dryer vent fires are really a "thing" that happens.  They may not be something you hear about much, but they occur more than one may think.  Customers often ask, “how did this happen, I clean out my dryer lint trap all the time?”  And cleaning out the lint trap is a good thing, but only half the equation.  Your car runs on gasoline and needs oil…..one of the two is not enough.  Same with your dryer.  You need to clean out the lint trap as well as the exhaust hose.  The exhaust hose is the piece of the equation that most people forget and is the main culprit when it comes to dryer related fires.  If you would like to clean the exhaust hose yourself, simply pull the dryer out from the wall, disconnect the venting hose, shake out the big clumps of lint and proceed to vacuum out the hose.  Depending on the amount of dryer use, to be on the safe side, cleaning should be done twice a year.  And never leave your home with the dryer going.

Should you experience a fire due to a clogged dryer vent, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks – Centreville – Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.  We can be reached 24/7, 365 days a year.

Nothing Like a Good Soak.....Unless You Don't Want One!

2/15/2022 (Permalink)

Are you having one of those weeks where it is storm, after storm, after storm? Are you feeling like a cartoon character bailing out your ship with a lone bucket?  Wet carpet and soaked walls can end up being more than just water damage caused by the storms if not immediately remediated.  Water soaked walls usually equates to water soaked insultation and possibly water soaked electrical outlets.  Wallboard up to the waterline should be removed, insulation dried or replaced, and electrical outlets dried and tested for system integrity.  If not cared for in this manner, the growth of mold is an almost guarantee.  Storms can cause untold carnage on your home, so act quickly so this secondary damage does not take hold.

Should your home be deluged with what seems like never-ending waterfalls, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly for immediate assistance.  We can be reached 24/7 on (703) 830-5800.

Is Your Bathroom Wet or Dry?

2/15/2022 (Permalink)

Between overflowing bathtubs, running toilets, and leaky shower stalls, it’s a wonder that bathrooms in our homes aren’t flooding with water every day!  How do we ensure this doesn’t happen?  Well, first of all, check all seals.  Make certain that calking is strong and in good condition, if shower tiles are cracked and/or loose, they need to be repaired before water gets behind them.  Check toilets for seals and properly working hardware and don’t leave the bathroom when you’re drawing a bath!  These simple and relatively quick checks and repairs can save a homeowner untold time, stress, and money in the future.

Unfortunately, nobody lives a completely charmed life, and eventually everyone experiences a bathroom water catastrophe.  When this time comes, call the professionals at SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly (703) 830-5800.  We are here to meet your every emergency remediation need, and we answer our phone 24/7, 365 days a year.

Does Your Bathtub Leak?

2/4/2022 (Permalink)

We recently received a call from a homeowner that lived in a second-floor condominium.  The occupant of the condominium directly above them had filled the bathtub when news of an impending hurricane was broadcasted on the news.  What this person did not realize, because they had ironically never used the tub, was that it leaked.  There was a small crack that had been repaired years prior, and to the eye, could not be seen.  However, when the tub was filled, as a preventative measure should they loose water during the storm, it leaked into the ceiling of the bathroom below.

What did the owners in the condominium below do?  Nothing!  They waited…..nobody really knows why, but they waited 3 weeks after the storm to discuss the matter with the owner upstairs that had filled their tub.  The owner on the third floor was surprised because they did not know the tub was leaking, and the owner on the second floor still had wet walls and a ceiling with a water mark stain.  Luckily, this was clean water that leaked for only a few hours until the storm passed, and the bathtub was drained.

However, what damage was done could have been almost entirely avoided had the owner called SERVPRO immediately when the water leak occurred.  Waiting is never a good idea when it comes to water infiltration.  Get us in and let us get it out!  Stop the damage, stop the possible onset of mold, stop any further damage from occurring.

Should you have water infiltration, give SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly a call today on (703) 830-5800.

What's the Weather Going to Be?

2/2/2022 (Permalink)

Have you heard the latest weather report?  We are into winter and it seems like every day the weather is treacherous somewhere in the United States!  Whether it is global warming or just good old Mother Nature, there is no denying that winter storms are brewing, and unfortunate damage is around the corner for some unsuspecting homeowners.  Sometimes even the best maintained homes are susceptible to storm damage.  Not really much you can do when a tree is toppled in a storm and falls on your roof.  There is going to be damage!  What should you do to be prepared for the winter storm season?  In addition to having your home in good physical shape, have tarps, duct tape, flashlights, batteries and a stock of water, snacks, and blankets to get you through until help can arrive.  Being able to tarp off a leaking ceiling or wall can significantly reduce the water damage caused by a storm as well as helping to retain heat within the home.  When there are bad storms, there often is a lack of utilities.  If you don’t have the ability to store a generator, then having flashlights, water, snacks, and blankets are a must to have on hand to keep the family dry, warm and hydrated until you are able to safely leave your home.

When such storms do strike, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly to assist in your emergency remediation needs.  Call us 24/7 on (703) 830-5800.

When Stuff Happens, Don't Ask Why....Just Call SERVPRO!

1/3/2022 (Permalink)

Why do it yourself when you have SERVPRO at your fingertips!  Simply call or go on-line and ask for our assistance.  With rainy season upon us and the cold winter months ahead, let us dry you out from any water, storm or moisture issues you may experience.

Don't let a washing machine malfunction get the better of you.  Did you know washing machines have water fill-top sensors?  If not, you are not alone.  Most homeowners don’t know that washing machines have a sensor that knows to cut the water flow off when it reaches a specified level in the wash basin.  If this sensor malfunctions or breaks, the water continues to fill the tank, resulting in overflowing that does not stop until someone turns off the washer.  A malfunctioning water sensor thinks the water hasn’t reached the correct level and will continue to fill and fill and fill.  So, helpful hint, do not ever leave your washer on while you are not in the house, unless you want to take the chance of coming home to the possibility of several feet of water on your floors!

Should you experience a water related emergency, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly for immediate assistance.  We can be reached 24/7 on (703) 830-5800.

Why Would an 85 Year Old Man Do That?

11/15/2021 (Permalink)

Why would an 85 year old man get on a ladder with a running chainsaw to trim a tree?  Well, that’s and easy answer: because he had branches pulling on his gutters and leafs clogging the downspouts!  And how do we know about this “adventurous” gentleman?  We were called by his neighbor (a customer of ours) who could not convince him to turn off the chainsaw and come down off the ladder.  The neighbor called us in a panic, saying his neighbor was worried about water getting into his house because of damaged downspouts and gutters and was on a ladder trying to take care of the issue by sawing limbs off the tree. It was only after he finished telling us what his neighbor was doing, that he added that the gentleman was 85 years old!

Although trimming trees isn’t in our line of work, helping people assess a situation when it comes to potential water damage is in our wheelhouse. Only being 1.5 miles away, we sent two staff members over to see if we could assist in any way. When they arrived, the 85 year old gentleman was down off the ladder taking a rest.  They were able to discuss his concerns with water possibly leaking into the house. They walked around the home, then went inside with him and looked at the interior.  Although they saw no indication of water leaking into the home, his tree did need to be trimmed away from the house.  They were able to convince him to let them call someone they knew to come over and finish the trimming for him.  Our professional friend came over that afternoon and finished the work at no charge.

Why did we do this?  Because we are a vested member of our community and helping people (especially when they are 85 years old on a ladder with a chainsaw) is how we build relationships. We did not receive work from our efforts, but we know that this gentleman will call us in the future as will our customer who initially called, and hopefully the many neighbors who learned of his endeavors that day.  But even if we don’t receive future work from our efforts, we know we did the right thing and being a responsible member of a community benefits us all in the long run.

So, if you do ever find yourself needing assistance with water damage, storm damage, mold, fire, etc., why not call us at SERVPRO of Burke-Clifton-Fairfax Station on (703) 250-6300.  We’re here in the community and ready to help.

Hmm.....Maybe Call the Professionals...That's Why We're Here!

Many homeowners are interested in do it yourself mold removal. They want to know how to clean mold themselves because they want to save money. Some also like the satisfaction of doing a job themselves. In some cases, it makes sense to handle a household mold problem yourself. Sometimes, though, it’s necessary to call in a professional that knows how to clean mold, like SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.

When Is Removing Mold Yourself a Good Idea?

Cleaning up mold yourself may be a good idea if:

  • The mold only covers a small area.
  • The mold is growing on easy-to-clean surfaces like glass, metal, tile, tubs, or sinks.
  • The mold is growing on hard-to-clean materials, like carpet, that are easy to remove and replace and you know how to do it properly.
  • Always be aware that mold may cause health effects.

Of course, you always have the option of hiring a professional for the job if you don’t want to do it yourself or simply don’t have the time or energy for what can be a time-consuming process.

When Is Do It Yourself Mold Removal Not Such a Good Idea?

In some situations, it’s better to call in a mold remediation professional for assistance. Cleaning up mold yourself is probably not such a good idea if:

  • The mold covers a large area (greater than three feet by three feet, according to the Environmental Protection Agency).
  • Mold develops after flooding with water that might be contaminated with sewage or other potentially hazardous substances.
  • There is mold in your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system (most homeowners have neither the knowledge nor the equipment needed to properly remove mold from their HVAC systems).
  • You aren’t sure how to do all parts of the job correctly (if, for instance, there is mold inside your walls and you don’t know how to remove and replace drywall) or you don’t have all the tools required to do the job (such as a drywall saw, if you need to remove moldy drywall).
  • You have moldy wood that cannot be removed and replaced, so the moldy area needs to be sanded and encapsulated instead (it’s recommended that only mold remediation professionals sand moldy wood since it significantly increases one’s exposure to mold, which can potentially lead to health effects.

In some instances, homeowners handle part of the job themselves while calling in a professional for other parts of the job, like removing mold from their HVAC system.

Electricity....Yes, Please. Fire....No Thanks!

10/19/2021 (Permalink)

Sticks and stones may not break your bones, but fire will hurt you!  Think of all the plugs, extension cords, and surge protectors that todays’ households use to facilitate the use of computers, phone chargers, TV’s, and a host of other electronics that we couldn’t have even dreamed of 20 years ago.  And with all these electronics, can be the over utilization of electrical outlets.  Older homes were not designed or electrically wired to handle the load of todays electronics.  Then, multiply these electronics by the number of people within a home, and the strain on the system becomes exponentially more concerning.  The result in many cases: electrical fires.  Unlike kitchen fires, electrical fires often “simmer” inside walls without anyone noticing until they combust into a large-scale fire that is already within the  infrastructure of the home.

If your outlets spark when you plug appliances or electronics in, this is a problem.  If you notice the electrical power in your home arc and dim when electronics are plugged in and out, this too is a sign of electrical weakness.  If you smell anything odd and rather metallic in nature, it may be your electrical wiring.  Be proactive and have your home checked by a certified electrician if any of these symptoms occur or you notice anything else of concern.

Should the unfortunate occurrence of a fire take place, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800 for all your fire remediation needs.  We are certified, licensed and trained in Fire restoration.

Check Those Gutters!

9/14/2021 (Permalink)

Did you forget to check the outside drains for leaves?  Do you now have water in your home?  Fall can be a pretty time of year, but those leaves can also wreak havoc.  If you find yourself under water, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.  We are committed to providing 24/7 water damage remediation should the need arise.  We're available 24/7 on (703) 830-5800.

As the leaves start falling this season, take steps to prevent water from getting inside your home.

Check all your exterior drainage systems:

  • Are your gutters free from leaves and debris?  Leaves and debris can clog gutters and drains and send water back to your roof, walls or foundation.
  • Check the drains in exterior stairwells. Make sure they are clear of leaves and debris. You can install a raised drain cover from most home improvement centers that will protect you from an inch or two of debris.
  • Gutters should extend at least 10 feet from the foundation.

Such preventive maintenance may save you time and headaches in the future.  But if you do find yourself with a water problem, Call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly today!

Due Diligence Can Only Help

9/14/2021 (Permalink)

It seems like we were just worried about summer storms and hurricanes and now we must change gears and be prepared for fall storms. Now that it is fall storm season it is important to understand that necessary precautions can save lives and property.  Check your home to ensure all window, siding, gutters, downspouts, decking, shutters and doors are properly installed and secure.  Put away or secure all umbrellas and outdoor furniture.  In addition, walk around your property to ensure all trees and vegetation is healthy and well rooted.  Dead and shallow root trees easily topple during heavy wind-storms.  Having a dead or compromised tree removed is far easier than dealing with the aftermath of it falling through your home.

Should Mother Nature prevail, and you do in fact experience storm related damage, SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly is only a phone call or email away.  We can be contacted 24/7 on: (703) 830-5800 or via email at: sp9686focc@verizon.net.

What Kind of Water Is Causing Problems in Your Home?

9/13/2021 (Permalink)

If you have questions, the IICRC Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration sets three categories of water that cause damage in buildings. They are summarized as follows:
Category 1 Water - Refers to a source of water that does not pose substantial threat to humans and classified as "Clean Water". Category 1 water may become contaminated if it mixes with soils or floor coverings, building assemblies, etc... Time and temperature can promote growth and amplification of microorganisms in water can cause Category 1 water to degrade.

Examples of category 1 water are: a broken water supply line (including the toilet), and tub or sink overflows.

Category 2 Water - Refers to a source of water that contains a significant degree of chemical, biological or physical contaminants.  These contaminants can cause discomfort or sickness when exposed or consumed. This water type carries micro organisms and is nicknamed "Gray water."

Examples of category 2 water are:  toilet bowls with urine (no feces), sump pump failures, dishwasher water discharge, and washing machine water discharge.

Category 3 Water - Nicknamed "Black Water" and are grossly unsanitary. These indoor water sources  contain unsanitary agents, harmful bacteria and fungi, causing severe discomfort or sickness.

Examples of type 3 water are:  water sources from sewage, seawater, stream or river water, ground surface water or standing water.

Category 2 Water that is not promptly removed and remained stagnant may be re classified as Category 3 Water. Toilet back-ups that originate from beyond the toilet trap is considered black water contamination regardless of visible content or color.

Knowing the classification of your water may help you understand personal safety concerns and the necessary material and debris removal anticipated. Think of the water category related to the amount of "natural fertilizer" that will help feed and grow mold.

Call SERVPRO of Burke Clifton Fairfax Station if you find yourself dealing with any of these water categories.  We can be reached 24/7 on: 703-250-6300.

Holiday Decorations Already?

8/17/2021 (Permalink)

Have you been in the stores lately?  It’s hard to believe but Christmas decorations are already up and displayed and aisles are brimming with holiday wrap and festive items.  Although perhaps a bit early to be hanging the stockings on the fireplace mantel, it is never too early to be prepared for fire safety.  In the winter months, many households have Christmas trees strung with lights, outdoor displays of lights and decorations requiring extension cords and outlets.  Chimneys are aflame with burning wood, giving the home that winter feel and smell that is welcome in the cold winter months.  But before all these activities commence, check and make sure you are prepared.  Is your chimney flue open and the chimney free of debris or any bird nests that may have been built over the previous summer?  Are your electrical cords and outlets in good shape and capable of handling the load you will be placing on them?  Is there a safety screen, or glass doors in front of your fireplace?  If a gas fireplace, has it been serviced and checked for leaks in the past several years? You can never be to cautious when it comes to fire safety.  Check and double check, to make sure you and your family are safe and can sleep soundly at night without the fear of fire.

Should the unfortunate occurrence of fire happen, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.  We are trained, licensed, and knowledgeable about fire remediation and restoration.  Give us a call 24/7 and we will be there to take care of your needs.

Lots to Consider When a Storm Hits

8/16/2021 (Permalink)

Everyone has heard the adage, “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” Keep this in mind during the summer storm season.

Why is that tree on my roof?

8/10/2021 (Permalink)

Summer storms are raging and catastrophes may be happening to your home.  If such an unfortunte occurance happens, and rain is gushing in through your roof, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks, Centreville, Chantilly on (703) 830-5800 for immediate assistance.  Our phones are answered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Although we are prepared to help you with storm related damage, not having to call us at all, is certainly a better scenario for you as a homeowner.  So, how do you keep Mother Nature from wreaking havoc on your home?  Well, sometimes it's just dumb luck that the tree falls one way, rather than another, but oftentimes preventive maintenance can prove extremely beneficial.  Walk around your property and make sure any large limbs that may be hanging over your house are trimmed, so that they will not fall on your roof, should they break because of strom winds or lightning strikes.  Are your trees healthy, or are they dying and the trucks beginning to rot?  If they are not healthy, have them removed.  Dead trees, like dead teeth, will eventually fall out and where a tree lands, may be very dangerous.

Bottom line.....take care of your landscaping and trees, so that if Mother Nature does strike, you are in the best possible situation you can be in.  Don't take any changes with overhanging branches or  dead/dying trees, have them trimmed and/or removed to eliminate the possibility of them crashing on your home or worse yet, hitting you or your family.

If disaster does strike, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks, Centreville, Chantilly today on (703) 830-5800.

Fire Pits!  Everywhere you turn, there is some retail establishment, either brick-and-mortar, or an internet outfit, selling fire pits.  It’s hard to argue with the fact that they produce a pretty, soothing evening, watching the embers glow and flames flickering against the night sky.  But along with the good times, comes responsibility.  Do not leave your fire pit unattended, do not call it a night and leave it roaring, and never end the evening without the fire out and the lid placed on top.  Another good safety tip……..unless you have your fire pit on a brick, stone, or concrete patio, it’s best not to have one.  Placing a fire pit on a wooden deck is simply inviting a potential disaster.  SERVPRO of Chantilly recently conducted a fire remediation job at a home where the fire stated on the wooden screened in porch and made it’s way into the adjoining family room.

Hopefully such a fire never happens, but if it does, do not hesitate to call us on (703) 830-5800.  We’ll get you back to a smoke-free, smell-free home in not time!

Why Do These Things Happen!

4/28/2021 (Permalink)

Why, why, why?  As a homeowner, do you find yourself asking this question every time something goes wrong around your home?  Why did the hot water heater break, spilling water everywhere on a holiday weekend?  Why did that tree fall on my roof, allowing cascades of rain inside my house?  Why did my new dishwasher malfunction and flood my kitchen in the middle of the night?  Sometimes there is no specific answer as to “why” these unfortunate events occur, but one thing is for certain…….they need to be addressed quickly before more damage takes hold.  If the unexpected disaster strikes your home, don’t ponder “why” it happened, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Chantilly-Centreville on (703) 830-5800.  We will be there to remediate the mess and help you come up with a game plan to minimize such events happening again.  Mother nature cannot always be stopped but proper repairs and seasonal maintenance can help mitigate disasters such as these from happening.  Give us a call today on (703) 830-5800.

Those Clooged Gutters May Be The Culprit!

4/6/2021 (Permalink)

Every time a storm pounds down on your home are you getting water leaking inside?  Walls wet and ceilings stained but you don’t seem to have any issues with your roof?  Check your gutters and downspouts for leaves, debris, even grass and trees starting to take root and growing!  We recently dried out a house because a tremendous amount of water had made its way into the walls and ceilings.  Drywall had to be replaced and mold eradicated as well.  What was the source of the water?  Clogged gutters and downspouts.  Check out the picture, maple trees were sprouting in the gutters!  The gutters were so clogged with leaves, sticks, dirt, and the little “helicopter” seeds that fall from maple trees, that they started to grow in the gutters.  Of course, this created such a clogged mess, that the water had nowhere to go but in the house, rather than down and away.

Lesson learned: keep your gutters and downspouts free and clear of debris.  Should you find yourself in a situation where water has made its way into your home, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Chantilly-Centreville on (703) 830-5800.

Water Ruining Your Floors?

3/30/2021 (Permalink)

We are often asked by our customers how they can determine if they have water damage to their floors.  In actuality, that answer is very simple.  If your home has experienced flooding to any degree, caused by Mother Nature, or by a leaky toilet or broken pipe, you may have damage to your flooring.  If there is damage, you will be able to spot it fairly easily.  If the floor is wood or tile, inspect for cracked, raised, or warped flooring.  Carpet may show areas of buckling, soft areas and may have a musty/mold-like odor.

In any of these cases, DIY attempts are probably not your best option. Professional grade equipment and expertise is needed to get your home or office back to pre-water damage condition.  So, give your local SERVPRO professional at Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly SERVPRO a call on (703) 830-5800 and we will be able to assess your needs and remedy the situation.

Soil Erosion Got You Wet?

3/10/2021 (Permalink)

Not Exactly What Your Kids Had In Mind?

2/17/2021 (Permalink)

So, your kids have been asking and asking and asking for a tree house. Well, that tree crashing through your roof, isn’t quite what any of you had in mind! There is no telling what Mother Nature may bring this storm season, but if she lands in your living room, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.  There is not much we haven’t seen or fixed, so give us a call any time, day or night.

And before the storm season hits, check the trees in your yard.  If a large tree is dead or rotting and susceptible to falling, a wind-filled storm may be the catalyst to bring it down upon your house.  Have an arborist or reputable landscaping company provide you a professional opinion and if necessary, have the tree removed before it has the chance to fall on your home.

Be Careful With Those Samores!

2/12/2021 (Permalink)

Do you have a chiminea, a fire pit or an outside fireplace at your home?  More and more homeowners are enjoying socializing around a fire……something that not too long ago, other than an old fashion campfire, was restricted to indoor fireplaces or woodburning stoves.  As more homeowners are buying portable fire pits and having outdoor fireplaces built, the need to be vigilant with fire safety is critical.

Common sense rules the day when it comes to fires.  Don’t leave fires unattended, don’t leave them under the guidance of a child, contain the flame so embers do not fly off into dry grass, mulch or rooftops, always extinguish when done, and never throw hot embers into a trash receptacle. Common sense, right?  We all would think so, but every year unintended fires take lives, destroy homes, and damage the land because someone was careless or just simply not thinking.

So, to keep you loved ones and your home safe from fire while enjoying your patio fireplace, always use common sense and err on the side of caution.

Should the unfortunate occur, and a fire strike, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.

2/9/2021 (Permalink)

These are simple and relatively fast “fixes” to your home that will save you time, money, and frustration  if taken care of today.  Should the unfortunate occur, and water damage does happen, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.  We’re always there to help!

Those Pesky Winter Storms!

2/9/2021 (Permalink)

Don't Let That Tree Take You Up In Smoke

12/1/2020 (Permalink)

It’s that time of year again…..the holidays!  Although a bit different in 2020 then in previous years, with fewer gatherings and families apart over the holidays rather then being together.  One thing remains the same; people love to decorate Christmas trees.  Each holiday season untold house fires are the result of hot lights or popping embers from the fireplace, catching a dry Christmas tree up in flames.  So, before this happens, take precautions.

If you have a live Christmas tree in your home, make sure it is well watered.  Check to ensure the lights are not hot and the wires and plugs are in good shape.  Keep your tree far enough away from your fireplace to prevent sparks or embers from popping out onto the tree.  Have a working fire extinguisher handy and review your family escape plan should a fire occur.

Should the unfortunate event of a house fire take place, first and foremost get out of the house.  Call the fire department and stay back away from the home.  Once contained and cleared for reentry, which could be days, call your insurance company and SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.  We are Fire remediation and restoration experts and can help put your home back together.  We have training, knowledge, and experience, but most importantly, we have compassion and understand what you are going through.  Should you need our services, call us today on (703) 830-5800.

That's Why We're Here....To Help Get Rid of the Clutter!

11/16/2020 (Permalink)

What constitutes a hoarder versus a collector?  What is the difference between someone that is thrifty and saves “things” for future use and someone that is a hoarder?  Why are some people so attached to the things they find and store in their homes, while other are minimalists, and even the thought of abundant amounts of “stuff” around the house makes them nervous? We are not sure what the answers to these questions are, but one thing is for certain; some people like a lot of stuff!  Who knows why, but from time to time, it must be dealt with professionally and that this why SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly is often called in to help.

11/12/2020 (Permalink)

This picture is worth 1000 words and is also why you never say never.  Murphy’s Law, the minute you say, “that will never happen to us”, Mother Nature will strike with vengeance!  A recent storm with winds topping 50 miles an hour upended this mature tree right into a house.  Luckily no one was hurt, but the damage was extensive.  Once okayed for entry by the authorities, the contents needed to be packed away and moved, the structure needed to be sealed to eliminate further water infiltration, and the water within needed to be extracted and the structure dry for rebuild.  Why was SERVPRO OF Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly called?  Because we’re the best!  We entered the home, inventoried and boxed all goods, moved, cleaned and dried all furniture, and sealed the home so it could be cleaned and dried.  Currently, the homeowners are in temporary accommodations while the construction phase takes place.  SERVPRO was able to get in and get our piece of the puzzle done quickly so the rebuild could begin prior to the winter weather setting in for the season.

Make Sure Your Winter Wonderland Doesn't Include a House Fire!

10/21/2020 (Permalink)

Ugh, Another Storm!

10/6/2020 (Permalink)

Unwanted Water in the Bathroom?

10/5/2020 (Permalink)

When this time comes, call the professionals at Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly SERVPRO on (703) 830-5800.  We are here to meet your every emergency remediation need, and answer our phone 24/7, 365 days a year.

Not Your Pretty Camp Fire

10/5/2020 (Permalink)

Sticks and stones may not break your bones, but fire will hurt you!  Think of all the plugs, extension cords, and surge protectors that today's households use to facilitate the use of computers, phone chargers, TVs, and a host of other electronics that we couldn’t have even dreamed of 20 years ago.  And with all these electronics, there can be the over-utilization of electrical outlets.  Older homes were not designed or electrically wired to handle the load of today's electronics.

Why is Water Getting Into Your Home?

10/5/2020 (Permalink)

After months of wildfires, the west coast of the United States would love to be deluged with rain.  If only we could wish the overabundance of rain in one part of the country to shift to the other part of the nation, everyone would be better served!  Unfortunately, such powers are not something we possess.  So, quickly addressing any overabundance of rainwater which may play havoc with your property, is of utmost importance.  If your basement is wet after a hard rain or water has creeped in under doorways or windows, don’t simply mop the water up and forget that it happened.  Putting your head in the sand like an ostrich is not the answer.  Look and try to figure out why the water is coming into the house.  Are the seals around the doors and windows worn and in need of new weather stripping?  Maybe someone simply didn’t close the doors or windows properly.  Or, perhaps you cannot tell why the water has come into your home.

Should you need help cleaning up the water, and determining the source and reason for the intrusion of water, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly today on (703) 830-5800.  We are water remediation specialists and can help inspect your home to determine why you are experiencing the problems with water leakage.  Put your mind at ease and give us a call today.  We’re here to help!

Is It Fall Storms Gone Crazy Or Just Poor Drainage?

10/1/2020 (Permalink)

That wet musty corner of your basement... is it because of all the rain or could it have been prevented?  The fall is a great time to do, as the Australians say, "a walk-about" on your property.  Over time, erosion can cause what looks like mini-Grand Canyons running down the slopping areas of your yard.  If this occurs, often times water builds and penetrates into your home, rather than running off and away from the structure.  Once the water gets in, the dampness, musty smelling situations begins to build.  Many homeowners we've dealt with immediately fear that their foundation or structure of their house is cracked or damaged in some way.  They cringe at the thought of the large expense facing them.  In many, many, cases, this in fact is not the situation and by simply regrading the yard, or running downspout extenders away from the structure, the problem is quickly solved.

So, take a few minutes and walk about your property.  Check the soil, the grading, your gutters, and downspouts to make sure any water from rain or snow will be adequately taken care of.  Nobody wants a wet and musty home!

Should you find yourself a bit late on this chore, and the water has already entered your house, give SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly a call today on (703) 830-5800.  We're here to help!

8/11/2020 (Permalink)

We often have clients say, "the fire wasn't bad and it was quickly contained; so why do we have so much damage?" The answer is an easy one: SMOKE

Delays in the clean-up after a fire can also add to the difficulty associated with smoke remediation. Check and Double Check!

8/11/2020 (Permalink)

If you are a commercial real estate broker, building supervisor, investor, or landlord, having your office space filled is your bread and butter.  Empty commercial space is revenue out the window. Don't let negligence and being unprepared for weather events jeopardize your livelihood by causing you to have damaged and unrentable space.

Make sure your buildings are as safe and well maintained as possible.  Check windows and doors for cracks, firm seals, and adequate locks. Foundations should be dry, plumbing in bathrooms, kitchen areas and break rooms in good functioning order, and electrical systems up to code.

If Mother Nature throws you a curve ball and storm damage does occur, call your local SERVPRO team for assistance.  SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly can be on site quickly to mitigate your storm related issues. Give us a call on (703) 830-5800.  Our phones are answered 24/7, 365 days a year.

Are Your Gutters Clogged?

8/10/2020 (Permalink)

Are your gutters clogged?  With summer storms and the torrential downpouring of rain, clogged gutters cannot always handle the volume of water racing toward the downspouts.  What happens when they are clogged and not able to adequately direct the water down the spouts?  It can cascade over the top or behind the gutters.  This does not really sound that bad, but when this excess flow of water makes its way into the walls of your home, your troubles have just begun.  Too much water seeping in over time, can lead to mold, which in turn can potentially lead to health effects.

So, keep your gutters clean of debris and leaves, so these problems are stopped before they even begin!  However, if you find yourself with a “leaky” house after a storm, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800 and we will be there to help dry you out!

Looking to Sanitize Your Building?

8/10/2020 (Permalink)

Is your commercial building gearing back up to allow employees to work in the office once again?  Are you, as a property manager, or building owner, worried about sanitary conditions?  With the Covid-19 pandemic, the world has become a tricky place to navigate.  Employees are worried about getting sick, employers are concerned for staff safety and hoping to maintain productivity.  Working from home, although a good option, may not be feasible for all companies.  Should your building need to be cleaned and sanitized prior to inviting your employees back, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800 for assistance.  We use SERVPRO products that are on the EPA N-List, have the equipment, personnel, PPE, and experience to get your building in shape for staff to return.  We have been providing Covid-19 decontamination/sanitation services for private corporations, government agencies, universities, hotels, and medical offices since April 2020.  We have what it takes to help you and your business get back to work.  Give us a call.  We’re happy to discuss the process and what we can do to help.

Are Your Eyes Playing Tricks On You, Or Is That Really Smoke?

8/10/2020 (Permalink)

Have you ever seen what you thought was steam rising from the garden beds around a house?  Did you rub your eyes, shake your head, and take a double look?  It may not have been steam or your eyes playing tricks on you but smoldering mulch.  At SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly, a recent client experienced just this.  Unfortunately, the mulch did ignite, burning through the bay window and damaging the kitchen.  Thankfully, no one was hurt, and the damage was not too extensive.  It’s often debated whether mulch can spontaneously ignite or if it has to have a catalyst such as a spark, hot ember or discarded cigarette to catch fire.  Regardless of which side of the debate you favor, summertime warrants taking extra care with respect to BBQ’s, fireworks, fire pits, citronella candles, and all the other activities that entail fire.  Should a flame, spark, hot match, or 4th of July sparkler land in a garden bed of mulch, you may be soon looking at a serious fire.  Be safe, take precautions, and protect your family and property from unnecessary fire damage.

Should the unfortunate occur, and your home sustains fire and smoke damage, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.  We are fire restoration experts and are here to help.

Is Your Sprinkler Watering the Inside of Your House?

8/10/2020 (Permalink)

Are you loving your new sprinkler system?  Enjoying the extra time you have to read a book on the back porch, rather than dragging your hose all around the house, watering the flowers, plants, and lawn on a hot summer day?  Sounds good and most of the time it will be good…….but, beware of the leaky sprinkler pipes!  Each summer we receive numerous calls from homeowners that have water leaking into their homes for no apparent reason.  There has not been a storm, a pipe has not broken, the washing machine has not overflowed, yet they have water in their basement and can’t figure out why.  The first question we then ask, is whether they have an underground sprinkler system.  If you have a sprinkler system at your home, make sure to adhere to the guidelines of an annual system check by the sprinkler installation company.  They will come out and check and test your system and are able to detect if the system is operating properly or perhaps has sprung a leak.  Preventative maintenance is the best, and usually cheapest, type of maintenance.  But, should you find yourself with a leaking sprinkler system, which created a wet house, give SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly a call on (703) 830-5800 and we’ll get you dry and comfortable again in no time!

That Darn Lawn Mower!

8/10/2020 (Permalink)

Heat and chemicals don’t always play nice together!  We recently helped a client with a garage rebuild after a fire.  Although the fire department was not 100 % sure which chemical products that were in the garage reacted to create the fire, they do know that one of the culprits was gasoline and a hot lawn mower.  Lesson from this experience is to always let your mower cool down outside before putting it away in a confined space like a garage.  In this case, the garage was small, hot, and obviously contained fertilizer, gas cans, paint, oil, cleaning solutions, etc.  How things somehow touch each other or ignite in the air, can sometimes be a mystery but what is not a mystery is the fact that summertime garage fires happen.  Should this happen to you, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800 and we can remediate your fire damage and our rebuild team get you back to new in no time.

My Washing Machine Did What?

8/10/2020 (Permalink)

Here is a bit of homeowner advice…..do not leave your house with your washing machine going! A recent water remediation job turned into not only a water job but a finished basement rebuild because of a faulty washing machine.  Hours and hours went by with the washer overflowing with water due to a faulty cut-off switch.  The faulty switch signaled to the washer that the wash tank was not filled with water, thus the continual flow of water into the washing machine.  Eventually the water had nowhere to go but out the top and onto the floor.  Inches of water were later found by the homeowner upon their return home.  The carpet and padding were soaked, the walls had absorbed water several feet up, insulation was soaked, the furniture was soaked and swollen from absorbing the water.  In simple terms, the finished basement was a mess!  SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly was able to remediate the damage and get the homeowners back to normal.  “Like it never even happened.”

Should you experience water damage in your home, give us a call on (703) 830-5800 and we will be there to assist.

What's in a Name?

8/10/2020 (Permalink)

What’s in a name?  Well……..water, hail, wind, and sometimes a lot of damage!  Hurricanes and tropical storms sometimes have funny sounding names, but don’t be fooled, these storms can pack a punch.  From water damage, to structural damage, to even fire damage, can be caused by such storms.  When you know a storm is coming, “batten down the hatches”, and take precautions to keep yourself and your family safe.  Lock your doors, pull curtains closed, put away folding chairs and umbrellas, fill a bathtub or bucket of water should all power and utilities be lost, and have some bottled water and non-perishable food to get through a few days.  If storm damage does occur, give SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly a call on (703) 830-5800.  We answer our phones 24/7, 365 days a year.  We truly are only a phone call away.  We are storm specialists and are here to make it, “Like it never even happened.”

What could that mud puddle be telling you?

1/8/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly recently worked with a client that had a water and mold issue in their walk-out basement.  They couldn’t understand why they were getting a musty smell and then noticed the wet wall in the corner of the unfinished part of the basement.  Odd as it may sound, they told us that they could not have mold or a water issue because they had a walk-out basement and they specifically bought the house because of the lot running slightly downhill and having no underground rooms.  We totally understood what they were thinking but when we walked them around the perimeter of their house and pointed out the extensive mud puddles, they started to understand the problem.

Their home may not have been underground and the lot did slope away from the house, but the grading around the home was not properly executed.  There we low points around the two back corners of the home without proper drainage.  The areas had become saturated with rain and the ground had turned to mud.  Over time, this was enough to cause the issue they were now seeing inside their home.  SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly took care of the water and mold damage.  We also spoke with a landscaping professional and pointed out the need to improve the grading and drainage around the back of the home. Once this was complete, the homeowner was is good shape….and likely to stay dry and mold free.

So, if you see excessive mud or puddles around your house, take note and research why this is happening. If damage has occurred, call SERVPRO to come and remediate your water damage before it turns into not only a water issue but a mold problem as well.

Call us day or night – SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.

Why can't it always be sunny!

1/8/2020 (Permalink)

Why do flowers bloom in the spring and summer? It’s because of the abundance of warmth and sunshine over a span of months.  If the weather was always warm and the sum was always shining, mold may still grow inside your home, but it would be less likely than if it was rainy, cold, and without sunshine.  With careers, family ties, and friendships, it isn’t always possible to live in a dry, sunny climate where moisture is limited, and frozen pipes are something that happens to other people.

So, if you live in an area of seasonal weather that brings the rain, snow, freezing winds, you must be diligent about your home.  Why ignore obvious issues that may cause severe and expensive problems.  Make sure your home is properly insulated and pipes on exterior walls are wrapped and protected.  Turn off your outside water lines during the winter months.  Clean your gutters and downspouts, so clogs don’t cause water to come inside, rather than remain outside.  Check the grading of your lot to ensure water is not standing and puddling around your foundation. How is your roof?  Are there leaks or issues with the flashing?  Sometimes it can be daunting being a homeowner and when situations get the best of you, give SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly a call on (703) 830-5800.  That’s why we’re here…..to help when the little things get out of control and cause you problems.  We are available 24/7, 365 days a year, so give us a call!

Why? Because we're simply the best!

11/19/2019 (Permalink)

Why does water make such a mess?

11/18/2019 (Permalink)

Do you have questions about water damage? If so, the IICRC Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration sets three categories of water that cause damage in buildings.

Examples of catagory 2 water are:  toilet bowls with urine (no feces), sump pump failures, dishwasher water discharge, and washing machine water discharge.

Why get rid of Mold? Ask SERVPRO!

11/18/2019 (Permalink)

Many homeowners are interested in do it yourself mold removal. They want to know how to clean mold themselves because they want to save money. Some also like the satisfaction of doing a job themselves. In some cases, it makes sense to handle a household mold problem yourself. Sometimes, though, it’s necessary to call in a professional that knows how to clean mold, like SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly.

  • You don’t have any health problems likely to be made worse by increased exposure to mold (check with your doctor if you’re not sure if it’s safe for you to clean up a mold problem yourself).

  • You have moldy wood that cannot be removed and replaced, so the moldy area needs to be sanded and encapsulated instead (it’s recommended that only mold remediation professionals sand moldy wood since it significantly increases one’s exposure to mold, which can lead to potentially serious illnesses).
  • You have a medical condition that might be made worse by increased exposure to mold, like asthma, environment allergies, or an immune system disorder (check with your doctor if you’re not sure if increased exposure to mold may exacerbate your medical condition).
  • You are already experiencing symptoms of mold-related illness, such as sneezing, coughing, runny nose, shortness of breath, wheezing, headaches, sore throat, or chronic sinus infections.

In some instances, homeowners handle part of the job themselves while calling in a professional for other parts of the job, like removing mold from their HVAC system.

10/24/2019 (Permalink)

Smoke and soot damage leave your property with black marks which can be unpleasing to look at. It destroys the appearance and structure of everything in it. This includes walls, ceiling, furniture and any other item in the affected room. It also leaves the building with an unpleasant odor that is hard to eliminate unless you turn to professionals like us for assistance. We are here to assist any smoke damage victims in Northern Virginia by offering friendly yet professional services to deal with the disturbing issue and restore your home or business property to its previous state.

At SERVPRO of Fair Oaks, Centreville, Chantilly, we use our experience and high-tech equipment to make sure that we clean and deodorize the building making it a comfortable place to live in. Smoke, due to its nature, can easily seep through the smallest cracks. It is, therefore, hard for you to notice it and this could lead to substantial damages when the issue gets out of hand.

Our team is qualified and has knowledge about how smoke works. This makes us the best option for you. We offer complete cleanup and odor removal in the NOVA area. We do this by following simple yet effective steps as follows;

Removing soot from the household

This is the residue left behind after the smoke damage. It is the action taken after assessing the level of the damage and marking the affected areas.

Determining and getting rid of the source of odor

The smoke smell remains in carpets, upholstered furniture and clothing unless it is eliminated before the cleaning process. We use high-quality additives and chemicals to help break the molecules and get rid of the smell.

Cleaning the room

After deodorizing, it is time to eliminate the smoke spots by doing a thorough cleaning of the walls, carpets and the washable clothes ensuring that they are all left immaculately clean.

If you are having a smoke damage issue in Northern Virginia, we are the right solution for you as;

  • We are experienced
  • Have the right equipment
  • Certified to do the job

Ugh....What Happened To My Floors?

10/8/2019 (Permalink)

Convenience or Headache?

10/8/2019 (Permalink)

Typically, homeowners love their sprinkler systems.  No more ungainly hoses to roll in and out every time the lawn needs watering. No more broken sprinkler heads or twisted hoses lying about the garage.  Just set the automatic timer and forget that you even have a sprinkler system......that is until it leaks and creates problems far more cumbersome then rolling up a twisted hose! Leaks in sprinkler systems are not uncommon and can cause water to seep inside the foundation of your home.  This water, if undetected, can result in damage to floors, carpets, walls, furniture, as well as the onset of mold.

So, enjoy the ease and efficiency of your sprinkler system, just be sure to have it checked and serviced annually to reduce your risk of any malfunctions which may result in water damage.

If water damage does occur, be sure to call in your SERVPRO professionals at SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.  We answer your call 24/7.

Don't Delay......Just Get It Dry!

9/20/2019 (Permalink)

What's It Like Having The Same Name As a Major Storm?

8/29/2019 (Permalink)

We sat down today with a good friend named Dorian…….the name of the most recent hurricane predicted to hit Puerto Rico, Florida, and other southern states sometime today, Thursday, August 29, 2019.  Here’s what Dorian had to say: “Well, I’m actually rather sad having the same name as a hurricane, because I already feel for all the people who will be affected by this storm.  Ironically, the name Dorian means gift, and child of the sea.  It doesn’t seem like too much of a gift today for all the people living in the eye of the storm.  My mother grew up on the ocean and is a gifted violinist.  She named me Dorian because of her love for the sea and after Dorian Rudnytsky, a famous cellist. My hope is that the storm somehow misses landfall and that hurricane Dorian is quickly forgotten!”

At SERVPRO, we too hope the predicted hurricane does not come to fruition.  However, if this hurricane or any future storm system creates storm damage for your home or business, call SERVPRO immediately.  We’re there to help in all sorts of situations.  SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly can be reached 24/7, 365 days a year on (703) 830-5800.

8/28/2019 (Permalink)

Have You Heard the Weather Report?

8/28/2019 (Permalink)

Have you heard the latest weather report?  We are rolling into fall and it seems like every day the weather is treacherous somewhere in the United States!  Whether it is global warming or just good old Mother Nature, there is no denying that fall storms are brewing and unfortunate damage is around the corner for some unsuspecting homeowners.  Sometimes even the best maintained homes are susceptible to storm damage.  Not really much you can do when a tree is toppled in a storm and falls on your roof.  There is going to be damage!  What should you do to be prepared for the fall storm season?

Dryer Vent Fire.....Really....Is That a Thing?

8/28/2019 (Permalink)

Should you experience a fire due to a clogged dryer vent, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.  We can be reached 24/7, 365 days a year.

Do you have a stream running under your house?

8/28/2019 (Permalink)

Careful With The Embers

8/28/2019 (Permalink)

Nobody Wants a House Fire

Ugh......Water, Water, Water

8/28/2019 (Permalink)

When this time comes, call the professionals at Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly SERVPRO on (703) 830-5800.  We are here to meet your every emergency remediation need, and answer our phone 24/7, 365 days a year.

Not Exactly The Tree House Your Kids Asked For!

8/28/2019 (Permalink)

Is Your Home Electrically Sound?

8/28/2019 (Permalink)

Sticks and stones may not break your bones, but fire will hurt you!  Think of all the plugs, extension cords, and surge protectors that todays’ households use to facilitate the use of computers, phone chargers, TV’s, and the host of other electronics that we couldn’t have even dreamed of 20 years ago.  And with all these electronics, comes the over utilization of electrical outlets.  Older homes were not designed or electrically wired to handle the load of todays' electronics.

If you notice the electrical power in your home arcs and dims when electronics are plugged in and out, this too is a sign of electrical weakness.

It’s winter and in the Mid-Atlantic region of the country, it is grey and wet!  Without much sunshine, it can start to feel even more dreary than it looks outside.  During these rather bleak months, the infestation of mold can take hold within your home.  Be proactive and take a good look around.  Check your attic when putting away the holiday decorations.  Same goes for the basement, when you’re down there doing the winter purge of too many “things” around the house.  Check bathrooms, laundry rooms, underneath kitchen sinks, wet bars, hose bibs, anywhere that water could possibly leak.  Also, don’t forget to check downspouts, gutters, chimney seams, door frames for good tight seals.  Should you detect mold, or see the tell-tale signs of water, call in the professionals at SERVPRO.

SERVPRO of Fair-Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly can be reached 24/7 on (703) 830-5800.  We’ll send a team of highly trained professionals to assess your needs and take care of your mold related issues.  So don’t let the cold, grey, weather…..and mold, get you down.  Call SERVPRO for assistance.

Oh No!

11/26/2018 (Permalink)

This picture is worth 1000 words and is also why you never say never.  Murphy’s Law, the minute you say, “that will never happen to us”, Mother Nature will strike with vengeance!  A recent storm with winds topping 50 miles an hour upended this mature tree right into a house.  Luckily no one was hurt, but the damage was extensive.  Once okayed for entry by the authorities, the contents needed to be packed away and moved, the structure needed to be sealed to eliminate further water infiltration, and the water within needed to be extracted and the structure dry for rebuild.  Why was SERVPRO called?  Because we’re the best!  We entered the home, inventoried and boxed all goods, moved, cleaned and dried all furniture, and sealed the home so it could be cleaned and dried.  Currently, the homeowners are in temporary accommodations while the construction phase takes place.  SERVPRO was able to get in and get our piece of the puzzle done quickly so the rebuild could begin prior to the winter weather setting in for the season.

So, if you find yourself in this kind of situation, why not give us a call.  We’re professionals who know exactly what to do to get your home back together.

Who Are You Going To Call...Ghost Busters....NO, SERVPRO!

11/20/2018 (Permalink)

What constitutes a hoarder versus a collector?  What is the difference between someone that is thrifty and saves “things” for future use and someone that is a hoarder?  Why are some people so attached to the things they find and store in their homes, while other are minimalists, and even the thought of abundant amounts of “stuff” around the house makes them nervous? We are not sure what the answers to these questions are, but one thing is for certain; some people like a lot of stuff!  Who knows why, but from time to time, it must be dealt with professionally and that this why SERVPRO is often called in to help.

This picture denotes a home of someone the local government authorities classified as a hoarder.  The situation became so acute that SERVPRO was called in to assist the local police and social services agency in the clean-up.  We at SERVPRO have handled many of these jobs in the past.  We are equipped with bio-hazard suits, gloves and masks, are knowledgeable about the disposal of any bio-hazard materials and are also cognizant of the fact that there may be heirlooms and valuables beneath the surface of trash.   Our professional approach to these jobs is why we are called back time after time and we are pleased to provide this service.

Why SERVPRO?......Because We Do It All!

11/19/2018 (Permalink)

We recently completed a comprehensive job that entailed water remediation, extensive clean-up, mold mitigation, taking inventory and packing away household contents, and considerable rebuild construction.  The job was very intense and required proper planning, scheduling of staff, ordering of building materials, and most importantly, coordination with the home owner.  There was an inordinate amount of work to be done and it needed to be completed as efficiently and expeditiously as possible so that the homeowners’ family could get back to their normal routine.

When we initially met with the homeowners and they walked us through their home, they asked us to get the water out and house as dry as possible, because they needed to hire someone to come in and pack up their belongings, deal with the mold, and then the reconstruction.  We told them that we would certainly work as fast as possible but that they did not have to hire others, SERVPRO could do all the tasks that they were needing.  Why go to an array of contractors when SERVPRO can handle all that’s required?  They were thrilled that the “complete repair” of their home could be done by SERVPRO and that they could turn their focus back to their kids and get settled in temporary housing.

SERVPRO was able to complete the job a few days earlier than the agreed upon timeline.  The homeowners were amazed at the restoration and extremely thankful.  They have told us that they are now clients for life, and although they hope not to be calling anytime soon, they will not call anyone but SERVPRO in the future.

Why Do It Yourself When SERVPRO Is There to Help!

11/9/2018 (Permalink)

Why do it yourself when you have SERVPRO at your fingertips!  Simply call or go on-line and ask for our assistance.  With rainy season upon us and the cold winter months ahead, let us dry you out from any water, storm or moisture issues you may experience.

This picture denotes SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Chantilly-Centreville drying out a customer’s home after a washing machine malfunction.

Should you experience a water related emergency, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Chantilly-Centreville for immediate assistance.  We can be reached 24/7 on (703) 830-5800.

Don't Let Those Yule-Time Logs Spark a Fire!

10/25/2018 (Permalink)

Watch for Popping Sparks

It’s getting to be that time of year again when family and friends gather around the fireplace.  On a cold night, it’s cozy, warm, and mesmerizing to have a nice fire going.  But don’t get complacent and call it a night with a roaring fire still burning.  Embers can pop and land several feet outside the fireplace if the screen or doors are open.  Should these embers catch a rug, newspaper, couch, etc., on fire, the entire room could go up in smoke, and possibly the whole house.  Don’t take any chances with your family’s safety and the integrity of your home.  Always close the fireplace doors should you leave the room and make sure the fire is out prior to falling asleep for the night.

Should the unfortunate occur and you need assistance after a fire, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800.  Our phone is answered 24/7, 365 days a year.  We are fire and smoke remediation specialists and can take care of any fire damage that has occurred.

Don't Let Pretty Fall Foliage Cause Flooding!

10/10/2018 (Permalink)

Don't Let Fall Leaves Take You Down the Drain

Are leaves starting to pile up around your outside drains?  They look pretty on the trees and fluttering down in the sky, but they can cause real damage if they clog drains and cause your home to flood. SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly is committed to provide 24/7 water damage remediation should the need arise.  We're available 24/7 at 703-830-5800.

As the leaves start falling this season, take steps to prevent water from getting inside your home.

Check all of your exterior drainage systems:

  • Are your gutters free from leaves and debris?  Leaves and debris can clog gutters and drains and send water back to your roof, walls or foundation.
  • Check the drains in exterior stairwells. Make sure they are clear of leaves and debris. You can install a raised drain cover from most home improvement centers that will protect you from an inch or two of debris.
  • Gutters should extend at least 10 feet from the foundation.
  • Buy a "witches cap" drain cover that allows water to escape if the surrounding area is covered with leaves/debris.

Are Waterfalls Entering Your Home!

10/4/2018 (Permalink)

Sometimes It Seems As If It's Never-Ending!

Are you having one of those weeks where it is storm, after storm, after storm? Are you feeling like a cartoon character bailing out your ship with a lone bucket?  Wet carpet and soaked walls can end up being more than just water damage if not immediately remediated. So act quickly so this secondary damage does not take hold.

Should your home be deluged with what seems like never-ending waterfalls, call SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly for immediate assistance.  We can be reached 24/7 on (703) 830-5800.

9/14/2018 (Permalink)

Delays in the clean-up after a fire can also add to the difficulty associated with smoke remediation. The longer the  permeation of smoke remains in your home, the further it penetrates into walls, carpets, furniture, draperies, etc.

The key to successful smoke remediation is to act quickly and professionally.  Once you are allowed back into your home, call your SERVPRO professional.  SERVPRO teams are trained in the latest techniques and products to rid your home of that unwanted smoke odor.

What is "Storm Surge" and Why Should I be Concerned?

9/14/2018 (Permalink)

Hurricane categories (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) are predicated on wind speed.  If a hurricane is at category 1 or 2, the threat may appear to be minimal but in reality, if predicted Storm Surge is considerable, the devastation can equate to that of a category 5 hurricane.

Storm Surge builds before a hurricane makes landfall.  Storm Surge is basically when ocean water is pushed toward the shore because of gale-force winds.  This rise in water level, coupled with high tides and already high waves, can create sheets of water from 10 to 30 feet high.  Such flooding can cost lives and untold damage to both land and structures.

So don't ignore the information pertaining to Storm Surge.  Close up your home or business and get to higher, safer, ground. Should the unfortunate occur and you sustain storm damage, call your local SERVPRO professional for immediate remediation assistance.

How to Prevent Carpet Mold and Mildew

9/11/2018 (Permalink)

If you have recently experienced flooding or water leakage in your home, take steps to stop the water source and call the local SERVPRO professionals. If you are able to stop the water from infiltrating your home, start to dry the affected areas.  To prevent mold from growing and to avoid that mildew smell, get out the fans to help dry the area.  If you own a dehumidifier, use it to dry out the air, walls, and ground along with the fans.

Taking these initial steps will help mitigate the damage while the SERVPRO team is on their way. SERVPRO, with industrial strength blowers, dehumidifiers, clean-up equipment, and products, will be able to get your home back to its original condition while avoiding the onset of mold and mildew.

After a House Fire, What Should I Do?

9/11/2018 (Permalink)

Nobody wants to have a house fire.  It is devastating to say the least.  However, if the unfortunate occurs, and you experience a house fire, the following are basic steps to follow:

1) Check with authorities before reentering the home.  Structural damage, hot embers, compromised flooring, are all dangers you want to avoid.

2) Once cleared to enter the home, document the damage with video and photographs. These will prove helpful when working with the insurance company and your SERVPRO restoration team.

3) Call SERVPRO, a professional fire damage restoration company. SERVPRO specializes in restoring and repairing what has been damaged from a fire, smoke, water, or flame retardant chemicals. SERVPRO has the team of experienced professionals ready to immediately handle any of your fire damage and restoration needs.

Sprinkler Systems: Friend or Foe?

9/11/2018 (Permalink)

If water damage does occur, be sure to call in your SERVPRO professionals.

Don't Roll the Dice With Your Health

9/11/2018 (Permalink)

Ugh....Mold!

Mold is a nasty roommate that nobody should live with! Mold is also stubborn and although you may see some in obvious places, it is often hidden in remote areas throughout the home. It can be in carpet padding, inside walls, behind picture frames, in attics, to name but a few of molds hiding places. Don't roll the dice on mold remediation as a weekend DIY project. When disturbed, mold emits what are called "mold spores", which become airborne and can be ingested when breathing. Mold can be the cause of minor to significant health problems, so don't roll the dice with your health. Put a sure bet on the table by calling in the professionals. Get the job done right by bringing in the SERVPRO professional team; your trained and licensed mold remediation specialists.

Coffee's Ready!

9/11/2018 (Permalink)

Would you believe me if I told you that sprinkling used coffee grounds around the outside foundation of your commercial office buildings, helped prevent the infestation of mold on the inside? Well, it may help your hydrangeas, but it has no preventative powers against the onset of mold.

Mold thrives in moist, warm, and dark spaces.  In underground parking structures, behind walls, underneath sinks, in elevator shafts, to name but a few of the many hiding places for mold.  To prevent mold, ensure that your building is well sealed, windows are leak proof, elevator shafts are cleaned, and garages, as well as office spaces, are properly ventilated.

If, however, mold infestation does occur, protect your occupants and your investment, by calling your local mold certified SERVPRO professionals to assess the situation and provide you with a remediation plan.  Then sit back and enjoy your cup of coffee.

Florence is on her way!

9/11/2018 (Permalink)

Be prepared for Hurricane Florence and any storm to follow. With tropical-force winds well over 100 miles an hour, coupled with pounding rain, damage is likely to occur.

What should you do:

1) If weather/government officials instruct evacuation, follow the instructions.  No property, no matter how sentimental, is worth loosing your life or being severely hurt.

2) Buckle-up your home to the best of your ability.  Make sure all doors and windows are sealed. Placing plywood over window frames is often suggested to prevent the windows and glass doors from breaking and to prevent the spraying of glass should they break.  Turn off all appliances, shut off your hot water heater, and turn off the water supply to the structure.

3) Furnishings should be elevated if possible on bricks, cinder blocks, or whatever raised platform you can safely fashion.  If room and time, take your most valuable and cherished possessions with you when evacuating.  Jewelry, pictures, artwork, heirlooms, etc. However, if the storm is imminent and you need to leave immediately, do not stop to take "things".  Get clothes, bottled water, and non-perishable food and get to higher and dryer ground.

4) Do not return to your home until the authorities have given the ok to return.

5) Should storm damage have occurred, call your SERVPRO professionals for immediate assistance.

DOn't be Caught Off Guard, Call SERVPRO Today for Your Emergency Response Plan (ERP)

9/11/2018 (Permalink)

What is an Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and why does my business need one?  Having an ERP will greatly expedite any remediation work your building(s) will need in times of emergency. Getting to problems quickly and knowing the intricacies of the building will save time and mitigate damage.

An ERP plan provides both the building owner, property manager, and the SERVPRO team with the information each needs to expedite emergency services. With an ERP, your SERVPRO team has a building diagram on file which notes water shut-off valves, electrical panels, access points of entry and exit, locations of kitchen areas, bathrooms, office or apartment floor diagrams, what materials are in the building such as tile, carpet, drywall, acoustical ceiling tiles, etc. This knowledge allows for quick and efficient access and action when responding to emergency situations.  Also included in the ERP are names and contact information for both SERVPRO professionals as well as the building managers/owners. All parties are therefore not scrambling to locate the right person or find the correct phone number or email.  This information pertaining to key personnel on both sides is provided.

Peace of mind for all involved may be the biggest asset of having an ERP.  As an ERP SERVPRO client, you are assured that your SERVPRO team will know who to contact, what to do, and where all the important touch-points are within the buildings.

With storm season here and winter approaching, it's time to contact your local SERVPRO franchise to establish your ERP today.  It's free, easy to establish, and worth the peach of mind.

Could my Attic Create Mold Issues?

9/4/2018 (Permalink)

"Leaks in the Attic" May be Worse Than "Bats in the Attic"!

Leaky roofs and malfunctioning gutters and downspouts are leading culprits with respect to water damage and mold.  Often, such leaks take a prolong period of time to seep down through the attic and into the ceilings and walls below.  This delay in recognizing that you have a problem, coupled with a hot, moist, and humid attic, is the "perfect storm" for the growth of mold. We all like to use our attics to store our extra belongings, but mold should not be one of them!

Should you experience a problem with your roof,  gutters or downspouts, don't delay, immediately contact your local SERVPRO professionals to come and inspect your attic. Getting your attic dry and any mold remediated, will put you and your family at ease.

Did This Water Damage My Floors?

9/4/2018 (Permalink)

We are often asked by our customers how they can determine if they have water damage to their floors.  In actuality, that answer is very simple.  If your home has experienced flooding to any degree, caused by Mother Nature, or by a leaky toilet or broken pipe, you may have damage to your flooring.  If there is damage, you will be able to spot it fairly easily.  If the floor is wood or tile, inpect for cracked, raised, or warped flooring. Look for buckling and gaps between wooden boards. Carpet may show areas of buckling, soft areas and may have a musty/mold-like odor.

In any of these cases, give your local SERVPRO professional a call and we will be able to assess your needs and remedy the situation.

“Pain in the Drain”……Fall Leaves Fit the Bill

8/30/2018 (Permalink)

Don't Let a Full Gutter Pull You Down

With autumn right around the corner, don’t forget to keep drains free of fall foliage.  A "witches’ cap" drain cover is a great solution for helping to keep drains from becoming completely blocked.  Homes with walk-up basements are especially susceptible to flooding when drains are covered with leaves; resulting in standing water that inevitably flows inside the home.   Another leaf trap is downspouts and gutters.  Clogged gutters can result in overflowing water, which runs down the house, rather than inside the downspouts.  Saturation of this nature can result in moisture wicking inside the home and establishing a breeding ground for mold. Typically, this water also stains wallboard and can get inside electrical wiring and outlets.

So save yourself the pain of water damage by keeping your yard, drains, and gutters, free of fall leaves.

Careful use of Deep Fryers is a must!

8/29/2018 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly recently took on the clean up and restoration of a fire damaged kitchen.  What was the cause of the fire? None other than a deep fryer.  Splattering oil caught a kitchen towel on fire.  In a panic, the homeowner knocked over the deep fryer causing the fire to engulf the kitchen.  Luckily, injuries were avoided and the fire was soon contained by the fire department.

SERVPRO was able to restore the kitchen to it's former condition and a lesson was learned on the appropriate use of deep frying appliances.

Should you need fire restoration services at your home or business, contact SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly on (703) 830-5800 or email us at sp9686focc@verizon.net.

Batten Down the Hatches!

8/29/2018 (Permalink)

DON'T LET A STORM CATCH YOU BY SURPRISE

Its summer storm season and necessary precautions can save lives and property.  Check your home to ensure all window, siding, gutters, downspouts, decking, shutters and doors are properly installed and secure.  Put away or secure all umbrellas and outdoor furniture.  In addition, walk around your property to ensure all trees and vegetation is healthy and well rooted.  Dead and shallow root trees easily topple during heavy wind storms.  Having a dead or compromised tree removed is far easier than dealing with the aftermath of it falling through your home.

Should Mother Nature prevail and you do in fact experience storm related damage, SERVPRO of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly is only a phone call or email away.  We can be contacted 24/7 on: (703) 830-5800 or via email at: sp9686focc@verizon.net.

If Soot and Smoke Damage Your Home....

4/9/2018 (Permalink)

Smoke and soot can leave stains and smells that are difficult to remove.

Smoke and soot damage leaves your property with black marks which can be unpleasing to look at.

At SERVPRO of FairOaks-Centreville-Chantilly, we use our experience and high-tech equipment to make sure that we clean and deodorize the building making it a comfortable place to live in. Smoke, due to its nature, can easily seep through the smallest cracks. It is, therefore, hard for you to notice it and this could lead to substantial damages when the issue gets out of hand.

Our team is qualified and has knowledge about how smoke works. This makes us the best option for you. We offer complete cleanup and odor removal in the NOVA area. We do this by following simple yet effective steps as follows;

If you are having a smoke damage issue in Northern Virginia, we are the right solution for you as;

  • We are experienced
  • Have the right equipment
  • Certified to do the job
  • We offer emergency restoration services

Do not think twice about trusting us to do the job for you and you will not regret your decision.

Do It Yourself Mold Removal in Fairfax Virginia

4/3/2018 (Permalink)

Moisture can create microbial growth

Many homeowners are interested in do it yourself mold removal. They want to know how to clean mold themselves because they want to save money. Some also like the satisfaction of doing a job themselves. In some cases, it makes sense to handle a household mold problem yourself. Sometimes, though, it’s necessary to call in a professional that knows how to clean mold, like SERVPRO of FairOaks-Centreville-Chantilly.

  • You don’t have any health problems likely to be made worse by increased exposure to mold (check with your doctor if you’re not sure if it’s safe for you to clean up a mold problem yourself).

Clean versus Dirty Water and what are the Implications?

3/26/2018 (Permalink)

Water can change categories over time.

IICRC Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration sets three categories of water that cause damage in buildings.

Examples of catagory 2 water are:  toilet bowls with urine (no feces), sump pump failures, dishwasher water discharge, and washing machine water discharge.

Call SERVPRO of FairOaks-Centreville-Chantilly if you have questions about water categories:

Got Mold? Better Call SERVPRO

12/6/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Thrives Under the Right Conditions

Mold remediation is one of our primary areas of expertise here at SERVPRO® of Fair Oaks-Centreville-Chantilly. We have the training and experience to contain the infestation, scrub health-threatening spores out of the air, remove the contaminated materials, and help prevent future microbial growth.

A Moldy Situation

Imagine you were cleaning out a storage closet at work, and you found mold growing on the back wall. Most likely this year, an ice dam supplied the water that created an ideal situation for microbes to grow in this closet. Once you identified and resolved the source of the leak, you would still want to contact a professional to mitigate the mold and ensure healthy air for your employees and customers to breathe.

Containing the Infestation

When SERVPRO® franchise professionals begin a mold job, our first concern is to contain the mold infestation. The mold you can see is only a small part of the danger posed to building occupants. Mold reproduces by releasing invisible spores into the air. These spores pose the real hazard for those who breathe the air in the infested building. Therefore, we begin by preventing air from the contaminated area traveling to other parts of the building.

Scrubbing Mold Out of the Air

Each job is unique in its challenges and solutions. However, in most cases, a SERVPRO® mold mitigation team will set up a containment barrier and create a “negative air” situation inside the infested area. A “negative air” situation is essentially a vacuum that ensures air only flows into and not out of the contained area while the air scrubbers filter the spores and other contaminants from the air.

Removing Contaminated Materials

Organic materials like drywall, carpeting, and ceiling tiles must be removed and discarded once they become contaminated with mold. This is why we encourage people to contact us immediately after a water loss to dry all the materials before microbial growth begins. Blowing a fan across moldy materials hoping to dry them and save them spreads mold spores in the air and increases the health risk to building occupants.

Inhibiting Future Growth

SERVPRO® franchise professionals can never promise to prevent all future mold growth. Mold spores are everywhere in the atmosphere, and they take root and thrive whenever they find the perfect mix of moisture, food (organic materials) and temperature. However, our team does have several products that discourage microbial growth. Once your moldy materials have been removed and the air has been scrubbed to reduce the concentration of spores, we can apply one of these anti-microbial agents to help protect your building’s structural elements.

Call SERVPRO® for Mold ASAP

When you see mold, remember you cannot see the biggest threat that mold presents. Contact our Chantilly, VA mold remediation team at 703-830-5800 for a free estimate and good advice about protecting yourself and other building occupants until the mold is removed and the air is clean again.

Fall Leaves Are Pretty But Can Cause Havoc

10/10/2017 (Permalink)

Keep your outside drainage system clear to prevent water from entering your home.
